This will allow people to install Windows 7 on systems that do not have a DVD drive (yes, Windows 7 will also run quite fast on your old notebook that only has 1Gb of RAM and does not have a DVD player), but it will also speed up the installation process (because installing from USB is faster than installing from DVD)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/windowsmvp.spaces.live.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Dennis Chung<\/a>, IT Pro Evangelist at Microsoft, has published a video, demonstrating how easy it is to prepare the USB and use it to install Windows 7. You can watch the video below (or from <a href=\"mms:\/\/mschnlnine.wmod.llnwd.net\/a1809\/d1\/edge\/2\/1\/3\/2\/Win7onUSB_s_edge.wmv\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a> )<\/p>\n<p><object id=\"MediaPlayer\"  width=\"425\" height=\"344\" classid=\"CLSID:6BF52A52-394A-11d3-B153-00C04F79FAA6\"codebase = \"http:\/\/activex.microsoft.com\/activex\/controls\/mplayer\/en\/nsmp2inf.cab#Version=5,1,52,701\"standby = \"Loading Microsoft Windows Media Player components...\"type=\"application\/x-oleobject\"><param name=\"URL\" value=\"mms:\/\/mschnlnine.wmod.llnwd.net\/a1809\/d1\/edge\/2\/1\/3\/2\/Win7onUSB_s_edge.wmv\"><param name=\"showcontrols\" value=\"true\"><param name=\"stretchtofit\" value=\"true\"><PARAM NAME=\"AutoStart\" VALUE=\"False\"><\/object>    <\/p>\n<p>In short, the procedure to prepare the key consists of the following steps :<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>On a Vista computer that will be used to prepare the USB stick, install <a href=\"http:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/downloads\/details.aspx?FamilyID=0FD9788A-5D64-4F57-949F-EF62DE7AB1AE\" target=\"_blank\">Diskpart<\/a>&#160; <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<blockquote>\n<p>(you must run the diskpart preparation on a Vista computer, because diskpart on XP will not show USB drives)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<ul>\n<li>Run diskpart and from the diskpart command line, enter the following commands :\n<ul>\n<li><strong>list disk<\/strong>&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; (to show the status of your disks) <\/li>\n<li><strong>select disk 1<\/strong>&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; (where 1 is the corresponding number of your USB drive) <\/li>\n<li><strong>clean<\/strong> <\/li>\n<li><strong>create partition primary<\/strong> <\/li>\n<li><strong>active<\/strong> <\/li>\n<li><strong>format fs=fat32 quick<\/strong> <\/li>\n<li><strong>assign<\/strong>&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; (give the USB drive a drive letter) <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Copy the Windows 7 installation DVD to the USB drive <\/li>\n<li>Remove the USB drive.&#160; Put the USB drive in the system where you want to install Windows 7 and boot from USB <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&#160;<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s it<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Microsoft has announced that it will support Windows 7 installations from a USB key.
